A short Biography of the late Murad Abdalla Mubarak
The sudden death of Murad Abdalla Mubarak few days ago in Hargeisa, Somaliland was a shocker, but as Muslims we know that the every soul will taste death. Murad came from a prominent Zeilite family. At the peak of the decline of Zeila, the Mubarak Kusayl family moved to Borama and eventually to Hargeisa, where they have a thriving business. Murad came from a very large family, a family that includes medical doctors, economists, talented artists and business men. Moreover, a good number of the Abdalla Mubarak family are bestowed with artistic talent.
Murad was a renowned artist who have designed so many land mark paintings and art in the former Somalia. Murad accomplished his middle and high schools in Hargeisa. He also went for higher studies in Italy and Germany. At the height of the ravages of the former dictator of the former Somalia, Musrad immigrated to Saudi Arabia and eventually settled down in Ottawa Canada. Though his life achievement are countless, what he did in Somaliland since the country reclaimed its independence is phenomenal.
Among other things he is the man who designed the Somaliland flag, the Somaliland passport and many other works. Before his death he was working on a comprehensive map on Somaliland, showing the natural regions, rainfall, vegetation, topography, physical features such as mountains, waterways, plains, wild life and many other things. Certainly the nation has lost an irreplaceable genius and an iconic artist and philanthropist. He was a giant with huge civil engagement leanings. His immense contribution to the new resurgent Somaliland will be remembered for may years to come. May Allah bless his soul. (Rahmatu Allaahu Alayhi).
