International Trusteeship for Somalia - Hussein Egeh

If there is any value left in the international community, the idea of trusteeship for Somalia must be weighed.

Let's be real, what is going on in Somalia is disheartening, daunting and desperate. No functioning government for almost 20 years. Thousand of people lost their lives, millions were displaced and are now scattered all over the world. Neither a single new road nor a a bridge has been built for the last 20 years. Existing roads, businesses, residential and public buildings are all in ruins across the country for lack of maintenance.

Not a single public school is open for the children of Somalia. Hospitals and medical care facilities are in shambles. Doctors and other civil servants are either dead or left the country for good and are now living as refugees in other countries. If that is not a disaster, I don't know what else it is. All Warlords, Murder lords, and Destruction lords came together to form what is now called transitional government or the TFG, which is now based in Mogadishu. Forget about securing the country they can't even secure their camps.

In Addition to that, the so called leaders of the transitional federal government are frantically competing to rob the international aid Money that is donated to the suffering people of Somalia. Nothing is working in Somalia; it is time for fresh new ideas, since Somalis can not Govern themselves, the idea of a trusteeship must be weighed. The severely diminishing United Nations must Mandate a Trusteeship in this post colonial era failed state. The failed formulas of the past must be radically changed. The philosophy of using the same ingredients and always expecting a different outcome must stop.

This radical move may not be the only one. It may be the first of its kind in the beginning of the 21st century. All members of the Security Council must agree upon the idea of trusteeship for Somalia. The United Nations should establish under its Authority an international trusteeship system for Somalia to promote and run the political, economic, security and educational Development for the Suffering people of Somalia. In conclusion, the UN will hopefully help Somalis Stand in their feet again, and help the revival of the vital institutions of the now defunct state. I strongly believe this is a good idea compared to what the people of Somalia went through for the last 40 years of misrule, no rule, tyranny, corruption, and ethnic racism.
